Healthy Living Educator
Project Description:
| |
Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital in need of a volunteer to teach healthy living choices alongside our Community Education Department. These classes use an evidence-based curriculum developed by Stanford University to empower older adults with chronic conditions to self manage their care. This is an exciting opportunity for volunteers to learn new curriculum and co-lead classes on a diverse range of topics, i.e. Chronic Disease Management, Balance & Mobility, Memory Fitness, etc.
The classes will be held at a variety of local community venues, including senior centers, community centers, and churches, and may include evenings. These classes are designed to help individuals make better lifestyle choices and to better manage chronic conditions, leading to a higher quality of life.
Volunteers will provide at least 2 sessions of 6 classes each per year on the Chronic Disease lecture series. Training for this program will include but is not be limited to 15 hours of class time. A new volunteer will be matched with an experience volunteer or staff. The classes will be taught in English with class size ranging from 10-15 people. Leaders with chronic conditions preferred.
