Jumpstart Community Corps

Project Description:
Jumpstart Community Corps is an innovative program designed to train volunteers to work with preschool children in low-income neighborhoods. Our volunteers enjoy working with young children and have a desire to give back to their community. Jumpstart Community Corps is currently recruiting for the 2012-2013 School year! We are looking for older adult volunteers to work in preschools in the Boulevard/Auburn Ave., Campbellton Rd., and English Ave. neighborhoods. In the Corps Member position, volunteers will have the opportunity to serve children ages 3-5, and help them build language, literacy, and social skills. Corps members volunteer a minimum of six hours per week. Service includes sessions at the preschool site, session preparation, and pre-service and in-service training. Volunteers will be compensated for travel expenses. Responsibilities include: •Working on a team of 4-7 peers •Reading to children in small groups •Singing songs •Reading poems •Playing games that build literacy skills •Leading art activities •Meeting with fellow team mates to prepare for sessions •Being reliable and punctual
